just done that gonna give it another go, if it comes up again ill write down all of the problem

Hmmm, just go into windows as usual. Click "Run". Type "CMD" then hit enter. Then type Format C:\ and push enter again.
Then follow all the steps in the video.

I typed that and got "Invalid drive specification."

Just tried yet again and got the blue screen so i wrote everything down. This is what i got

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated.

Run CHKDSK / F to check for hard drive corruption, and the restart your computer.

so you dont even manage to get to the point were u format your hard drive ?

Its tells me something about f6 then something about f2 then goes to start up and then the blue screen comes

Are you using a legal version of Windows? .... is it a Cd you bought in the shop, or did you download it and burn it to a disk?

im not completly sure but i got the same problem a wile back when downgrading to xp from vista,
you gotta go into bios and change "sata" < i think to 'ide' from 'ahci' - worth a try if it dont work u can always change it back.

Right I tried what dean said and changed the SATA and its working!

Im on my sisters laptop but I have no clue what to do on this part of the format its come up with:

The following list shows the existing partitions and unpartitioned space on this computer.

Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select an item in the list.

1. To set up Windows XP on the selected item, press Enter

2. To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press C

3. To delete the selected partition, press D
