The "new server" isn't a totally new server, it's just new files.
This means that all characters and items (99.5% of items any ways) will be on the server once the server is back up.
One of the biggest problems with the old mir files was the program called DBserver, we no longer have this, but this was the program that saved and read data from the database. As it was an inderpendant program it had no idea if there was a program with the m2server. So if the m2server crashed the DBserver would try and carry on doing its job. This caused many items to be duped, and many other problems, inculding casuing mini rewinds.
Due to the amount of problems the dbserver casued, we had to pretty much rebuild the old database, this meant removing any items/character and other items that had been duped.
Removing duped character wasn't really an issue as each duped character was duped on the same account, so was just a matter of removing 1 of the characters. This hopefully will not of caused any problems for users, but we will not be able to fully test this until the people in question have logged on to their accounts to check.
However duped item removal was a bit tricker, as are unable to tell which item was the duped item, who duped it etc. At least 95% of the duped items were silly things like candles, and pots, so although we deleted around 200,000 items, most of them will go unmissed.
The high vaule items which were duped needed some special attention, so rather then being harsh on random players and cause them to lose items which could of be gotten fairly, we didn't delete the duped items. Instead we removed all the add stats from any duped item. This only applies where the item was duped only once. If the item was duped 2 or more times then the item was deleted.
We are arware that people we able to use guild storage to dupe Mir items via the changer NPC in BW. There is no way to trace this failry... however due to greed mainly, the people using this bug were changing 3+ mir items, and with the aid of the unique item ID number, it was easy to trace items that had been created via the NPC within a short amount of time of each other.
As ALL the data from the old server is being moved over, this means that all characters incudling deleted characters will be in the system. With the old files when you deleted a character, the character wasnt really deleted, it was just marked as deleted, this lead to a lot of problems with people deleting characters on thier account, then creating a character with the same name on the same account:\ Anyways, this means that if you deleted your character on the old server then there is a chance you will be able to get it back.
Forgotten user names and password, no details on your accounts etc! This was always a major problem on the old files mainly due to the fact there was no way to force users to input real account details or real email addresses. If you have details on your account then getting your account back will not be a problem.
If you havent got any details on your account then i really not sure what we are going to do, i guess its something i will have to sort out on a person to person basis. I do have all 3 years of connection logs and emails still so i will be able to trace most accounts back to something related to your ISP, forum account or past emails.
At the moment i am not able to recover any user names or passwords so please do not ask.
A few of you might of remembered me asking you to delete your character if you want it transfering over to the new server. only about 5% of the characters got deleted when i asked you to do this, the people who did this have had there account details added to the database allready, and will be the 1st people to have access to the server when it is live. The people who never deleted their character will have to wait. CONFUSED???
Yes i said all data has been transfered over from the old server, the problem is not all the old data works with the new files, mainly the user name and password file. The user name and password file is saved in a format called a flat file, basiclly a txt document. The problem is that the only program that can read this flat file, is the old login server. As we do not have the soruce code for the old login server we are unable to find out how this flat file was saved. We have however been able to work out alot more about the flat file and once the files are finished we will convert this flat file (which is huge, 191,323 pages in microsoft word and 1,300,000 ish words) so its alot of accounts to be converted.
I think that has covered most questions. If you do have any more questions feel free to ask.
